Schools in Haiti used to close for summer brake in June but this year the government require to keep school open till July because of the earthquake that affected schools so bad that they staid closed for  about months. However most schools supported by star of hope in haiti are organizing final exams for the kids. Some of them are already in vacations but  waiting to have report card soon to know if they succeed the school year to be an upper class or failed to repeat the class. Children from Jeanton school have recreating summer program in school: singing, dancing, video game, cinemas, beach journey, all kinds of programs to keep children happy and have good summer time to help them kill fear and traumatisms that the earthquake left behind.   funs program they have  today was planting plants and trees around the school to make school looks better next school year.  The trees they have planted today in front of preschool new building are in honor of the donors who had given money topay for the construction in the profit of  the small kids in Jeanton.   They are very proud of the building that is very nice painted and attractive.

July 13, 2010-

Star of hope , jeanton school staff and parents meet for the first in the new preschool building to plan on  the next school year that is scheduled  to open in September  to June. All parents were present to debate how to work together to transform school to model school. It was a very interesting moment for the parents to be part of such important issues of how to improve children education in all star of hope schools.  It was also a unique occasion for them to see and appreciate the new preschool construction. For the majority of parents the new building inspires confidence  that children will receive  better education. Because not only the new building will allow to decongestion the primary class-rooms  but also it is nice looking  to welcome preschool children next coming school year. The class-rooms are spacious, painted, decorated very attractive  with better class-rooms  furniture , what will certainly offer better working teaching environment .  The parents as well the school staff profited of that occasion  to thank all sponsors in Sweden and US who have given money to build the preschool in Jeanton that makes them proud of the school and the community.

Children are more than happy because tey are receiving the money in good  time when it is  summer break . Children said it is not pleasant to be broke in summer vacations. for most of them the money will be spent in candy, new clothes. new shoe, in football, in games, etc... children send greetings and thanks to their sponsor for the special gift money that is more than welcome for the kids to have a better summer time.

June 3 2010

star team from kansas accomplished tremendeous work in Hesse school, Carrefour orphanage and in Dano to work with kids and parents that are traumatized by the earthquake that killed more than 250,000 people in Haiti, one the most humanitarian action that they have done is to walk from Hesse to Dano through many mountains in very bad weather to deliver a donkey to Wilguens a boy that lost recently his mother during the quake. he needs this donkey badly to help him carry goods from and to market place, to carry water from the springs to the house, to carry crops in harvest time from the farms. donkey is a very helpfull animal in countryside in haiti. When parents can not afford to buy a donkey they use children to do the donkey job. So Wilguens was very happy to receive the donkey gift from star of hope sponsors to help him in daily tasks. Your help through star of hope can make great difference where people are in great need. A Bientot! Tony

May 30, 2010

The Kansas mission team has completed a great week work with kids and parents from Hesse  that is one of the 11 localities in Haitistar of hope has development cooperation work. they stayed 4 days in Hesse (Sunday to Wednesday) where they shared gospel with the population and helped 350 children and school staff  to speak out their fear, their emotion, their problem that the earthquake left behind. They helped them broken their dramatization through funds time program of singing, playing, game, making basket and bracelet and bible story.  In spite of bad weather they had courage to work under rain fall t every day with the kids in Hesse school. Tuesday is the only day there were no session because it had been raining  badly all day long but they had decided instead to walk 2 km from Hesse to Dano to deliver a donkey to a boy named Wilguens who has his mother died in PAP by the earthquake. The time the most exciting for Kansas missionaries was to help making mother gift kit full of sugar, rice, soap, tooth paste, pasta, spaghetti, cooking oil and strainer. On Mother’s day they walked in door to door the community to deliver the kit gifts to the mothers. Strong relationship has been built between the population and the missionaries, it was a rich experience for both group to meet together to have cross culture experience. They come back to PAP on Wednesday night and continue their mission next day to  Carrefour orphanage where they passed full day with 130 kids living in that orphanage. They worked with them and had good time together singing, playing and fructuous friendship conversation together.  The last day to leave Haiti, they had just time to go Jeanton to deliver 80 kits gifts to mothers for Mother’s day and had short time to buy some souvenir before to go the airport to flight back to US.    We thank all the 10 missionaries for coming to Haiti to help: children, parents and staff are very thankful for good and fructuous work they have done in the benefit of kids and parentsin Haiti. May God bless you all! Tony

May 19 2010 - I have been to les Palmes today to visit 1300 kids that star of hope support education program for them since 1998. All the way long the road from Petit Goave( the nearest town), it was sad to observe damage of the earthquake leaft behind: many houses of poor people collapsed forced them to live in the  tents, land slide destroyed farm fields that people depend on .  In Les Palmes project where star of hope support school, the church is down as well the preschool building that are located just at the entance of the compound. The church that was  built in 1950 was a nice beautifull building that was made of local material of wooden truss roof and write stone. The church that is collapsed  is big lost for the community because it used to welcome in sunday mass more than 500 people to worship God. Today a big tent is built on the ruine for temporary class to welcome preachool kids , first and second graders who looked very happy to attend school in a big tent made of wood pole and plastic top cover.

April 27, 2010 - 12 temporary classrooms made of lumber 2 x 4 and tins are completed in Rigaud's school.  Children , school staff, parents are happy to see this job done in few days.  School is opened since March but functioning outside the school building in open air; under trees; less than 50% of kids show up because they are afraid to attend school in heavy building and also were uncomfortable to attend school outside, they were bothered by either the sunshine or rain and wind.  Since yesterday  the classrooms are completed  to welcome children and teachers, more than 80% come back to school  because they feel safer now because of the light look structure.  This project is  financed by Star of Hope for $8,000 US in Rigaud  donated by Star of hope donors.  Build  temporary class-rooms  is part of back to school program to encourage children return to school. More class-room are under construction in other schools  supported by Star of hope that were callopsed or damaged by the earthquake while we are searching  more funds to rebuild all damaged and colapsed schools in haiti.  Star of hope haiti,  on behalf of the children in the projects, thank you all donors for making this  project possible. A Bientot!  Tony and Myrtha

April 24 2010 - government of haiti said loundly in the news that two tankers of gas arrived in the port of PAP this ending week, but until today 95% of gas stations are close, for the fews that are open and sell gas, they line is so long that it takes day to reach the pump to get gas. Denis and I are always lucky when we go out looking for gas, we always find a gap near to the gas pumps where we can back up or drive forward in front of line to get gas quikly without broken the line. That happen in two occasions this week, the first time we were way back in the line and a police man, for not  blocking the intersection of the road where we were stopping in the long line, order us to leave the line and direct us to move forward to the pump and back up the car to the pump to make gas.  The second time is today, we were driving all over PAP to find a pump that is selling gas after long time hunting for gas we finally found  a pump that is just about to open and line is just started to form . When we arrived to that gas station we were in second position in the line and by the time to full the car the line increase so fast that we could not see the  end of the line.  We were so happy to be able to have gas so easy that we were  laughing, screaming of joy and  talking only about it all way long to go back home . For us it was a great victory! Continue reading my blog, much more to share with you. A bientot!  Tony

April 20th 2010 - Last night rain fall for 6 hours non-stop on Plaine-du-Cul-de-Sac where I live.  There is risk of flooding in that region ( airport PAP area) this week if  rain continue falling down. This morning when I walked up I found 6 inches water all over my yard. April 19th 2010 - Government of haiti anounced this morning that gas thanker has arrived in Port-au-Prince port last night and fuel will be available in all gas stations from tomorrow morning . It is a big uff  because every one was tired about gas shortage.  continue reading me, lot more to share with you. A bientot!  Tony

April 19 2010 - Fuel problem persist is Haiti, gas stations empty of fuel since last week and the problem will continue till the next tanker arrives on 26 of april.  Denis and I are going to Rigaud school this Morning to take new pictures of kids for sponsorship program and we have gas in the car just bearly enough to go and back. On our way  we will looking for street gas vendor to buy one or two galons that is a black market because the cost of a galon of gas is double on the street. projects visits activities in the office could be suspended temporary this week because of fuel problem. Keep reading me, I have much more to share with you. A bientot! Tony

April 18 2010 - Denis and I have been to Marigot yersterday to distribute goats and chickens that Star of Hope donors have given money to buy for the kids. It is our fourth trips in four differents villages to give those kifts to the kids in presence of their parents. we have distributed in total 99 goats  in Dano, hesse, Boyer, jeanton, rigaud and Marigot. Children are very happy and are very thankfull to the donors.  In Marigot we were all surprised  to see a child brought a turkey instead 2 chicken that he should buy with the money. When we ask him why he preferes turkey he said it is because that every year in spring time chicken get deases and many died but never happen to turkey. He is really a smart boy.  Also in marigot, our car key get lock in the car. we were anxious and panicked no way to open doors aftter severals tries. 30 minutes after a young guy came with a iron tick and said let me try to open the door. we have tried and failed for 30 minutes but he succeed in less than 2 minutes. it is amazing to wath him and we were so happy that we gave him 500 gdes as reward.

April 14th 2010 - Tony asked me to update you on yesterday. He is on the road to Boyer to check on the pay it forward goat project.  Yesterday was interesting. There is little fuel in the country so travel and the generator useage has to be closely monitored. He went to the warehouse where we have all the donated supplies that came from Sweden to distribute some of the items to partner organizations that need them. Grace Village where the Haiti Love and Faith girl's home is located it home to 20,000+ refugees. He was pleased to send materials for those refugees. The other partner was told that the items were quite large and bring a big truck. They showed up with a small truck that could only load a small sample of the items.  Another day will be spent when they can send a big truck.  This is typical of each day for Tony. (Barry Borror Executive Director, Star of Hope USA)
