Star of Hope Romania's director Aurora Vatamaniuc reports major flooding that is affecting the families of the disabled that they work with.
Dear friends,
I greet you everyone and I want to announce you that a big disaster has happened in the area of North-East of Romania. Because of the heavy rain in a big storm, over 300 localities has been flooded.Reports of 26 deaths with more expected.
Over 2200 people have been affected by the water and have been evacuated and over 300 people lost their houses. Many hectares of land has been over floated and the people lost the animals and births and the gardens with vegetables. The people cannot use the water to drink and the electricity was cut.
Yesterday I was with a group of children with down syndrome from Dorohoi and their parents we were in a camp for treatment of the disabled children in Oradea .While we were here someone from Dorohoi called and informed us that half of their town was under the water.
One of the mothers who is a widow and has a daughter with Down Syndrome got the news that her house is completely under the water.She remained with nothing .She was crying,crying for she lost everything in the house and outside the pig,chickens, this was her food for surviving. Also the other parents have been shocked .The other families has got water in their houses.
My brother was on the way from Iasi to Dorohoi by train.The train could not arrive in the railway station in Dorohoi because the water.All the passengers have spent the night waiting in the train for help from emergency.Before he left for Iasi, heparked his car in the train station Dorohoi.His car was completely covered by water.Also the other peoples cars has been covered by water.
The pastor's house in Dorohoi was distroyed by the water so now he and his family of 9have to stay with others. It was terror . The rain did not stop.
Please pray for Romania because is dangers that other bridges will fall. The big rivers in north: Prut and Siret are coming into the villages with speed. This has never happened before in our area.
